Summer has arrived!
- by Kristen Hammick
I have many goals for this summer, let me tell you. Between working and trying to relax, there are way too many things I would really like to accomplish.
1. Go through my clothes and decide what to keep and what to donate
I tend to hoard old clothes, regardless of whether I wear them anymore or not. I always find excuses to keep things. Not anymore. As soon as I’m home and unpacked, the purging begins.
2. Fill the gaps in my wardrobe with stylish, grown up pieces
I guess the last thing you want to do when you get rid of clothes is to get new ones. However, I would like to get some pieces for my wardrobe that are stylish and make me look my age. I’m planning on buying some new stuff to fill out the gaps of things that I threw out.
3. Try out some new recipes
If you didn’t already know, I absolutely love cooking. I don’t cook nearly as much as I’d like to, but I’m starting to cook more and more. When I’m at school, I opt for quick and filling rather than something I actually want to cook. I have found a few recipes that make me happy so far, but I’d like to find out more. However, my family is fairly picky and I’m afraid they’re not going to let me try things out on them. We’ll see. I would also really like to bento more at work.
4. Construct a Bioshock Little Sister cosplay, Adam syringe and all
This is definitely going to be my main project this summer. If you’ve never played Bioshock, it is a fantastic game. It is rated M so not for kids, but I highly suggest picking it up if you’re interested in a horror/thriller/FPS game with an intense storyline. In the game you encounter little girls called Little Sisters. Probably some of the freakiest characters in the game, these little girls have been conditioned to gather Adam using the syringes they carry around. After doing Anime Boston this past April, I will continue going to cons and I want a costume that is going to really represent something I love and am interested in. I will definitely be documenting my conquest of the costume and will be blogging about it.
5. Get in some sort of shape (and not have it be round)
This is my final goal for this summer (I think). I have a dilemma. When I’m at home, I eat fantastically but I never work out. When I’m at school, I eat like crap (not so much this year) but I’m always walking around and I even try to get to the gym. So this summer I’m going to try to make a conscious effort to get into shape and looking a little better. Hopefully I can pull it off.
So there you go. Outside of working a 40 hour week, those are my plans for this coming Summer and the next 3 and a half months of my life. Hopefully I’ll stick around here and share it with you.
